Inference Lesson 2

Remember - an inference uses 2 things: schema (background knowledge) and evidence. You must have both (most students forget to use evidence) to understand what is going on in 1) a picture, 2) a song, 3) a situation in our lives, and 4) in text.

So far we have examined inferring in a picture, in a few stories (Wilma Unlimited  by Kathleen Krull, Zoom and Re-Zoom  by Istvan Banyai, and Good Dog Carl by Alexandra Day), dug through a "garbage bag", and took a look at some artwork. Now we are going to use our senses to LISTEN to a fun song that should lead you to make some inferences.

Before you begin - I want you to focus on the main "character" of this song - What is he/she feeling? How can you tell (evidence)? What schema (background knowledge) helps you figure this out? Does his / her feelings change during the song? Again - use evidence and schema to support your answer!

Now that you are prepared - Listen to this song - Beep, Beep by the Playmates

    i think she was getting eratated(infrence) because the other person woldent stop beeping his horn.(evidence)I would be so eratated to and i would keep going faster also.(backround knowlege)

    I think the person got excited when they stated racing the other car (inference) because the music got faster and the car kept speeding up. (evidence) I know that I would get excited if I started to race a car.

    i think he was getting iritated because the peson behind him kept beeping their horn and i get irritated to

    i think the guy was getting mad [infrence] because the dude behind him was honking his horn and "on" his back bumper [evidence].i would have a hard time too like the guy in the slow car [background knowledge].

    In the video the girl in the red car was getting mad at the other car,(inference) I know because the other car wouldn't stop beeping his horn (ecidence), I would be mad if somebody kept honking thier horn at me (background knowledge)

    I think the big man in the big car was trying to get away from the guy in the little car, because in the song they say the big guy was going 99 and 110 and when I go that fast that means I am trying to get away from something or somebody.

    i think the guy in the back is going fast and the one in the front is going slow so the guy is honking and the guy in the front was going extremely fast after the guy kept on honking at him

    I think that the guy in the car is mad at the person behind him. The reason I think he is mad is that the guy behind him keeps honking at him.

    I think he is mad beacuse the guy is going to slow. I would be mad too. Also I think he always beeps his horn becuase he is going too slow. I think he does not like to be behind him.

    he was mad beacuse the guy beeped his horn and he started sing faster and faste until the guy left i would be mad to if he kept beeping his horn

    I think he was mad because he sped up and went as fast as he could. I think they were on a highway.

    i think this guy is getting anoyed because this guy keeps on following the guy.because this guy keeps on following him.

    I think the main character was getting annoyed by the person in the other car because he was beeping at the main character, I would get annoyed if someone kept beeping at me.

    I think the red car was going slow,(inference) the blue car was beeping.

    i think the guy is surprised.In the song he clearly states that he is surprised.He says "To my surprise".i also think that the guy in the other car was puzzled.At the end of the song he asked "How do I get this thing out of second gear.

    Inference- I think that the guy was talking about a Catilac because he said my catilac is not a score.

    Evidence- He pushed on the floor and went 90 to 110.

    Background- His car went beep beep

    I think he felt irratated because the guy was racing him when he didn't want to because he maybe didn't want to get pulled over by cops.
